About
The Association for the Preservation of Long Pond (“Association”) was established in 2002 to ensure the health and beauty of Long Pond for current and future generations. Due to homeowners’ involvement and proactive leadership, the Association, working with the Town of Barnstable, has and continues to work to prevent the overgrowth of Hydrilla, an invasive aquatic plant species. We are also focused on understanding the causes of and mitigation for elevated Cyanobacteria levels in our pond as well as a number of other issues of interest to the homeowners around Long Pond.
In September 2019, we started a mailing and web campaign in an effort to update and re-energize the Association. We sent out a mailer in early October encouraging homeowners in and around Long Pond to join the Association and sign-up to this website. As of July, 2023 we have a total of 165 members which is about half of the homeowners that live on the pond or streets surrounding the pond. As new people move into the area, please let your new neighbors know about the Association. They can easily sign up by logging onto this website: preservelongpond.org.
Organization
In January 2020, you should have received a letter from the Association Chairperson, Ron Sirch, advising of his decision to step down as Chairperson. Ron has served admirably as Chairperson of the Association since 2008 and thankfully has agreed to stay on in an advisory role as Chairperson Emeritus. We are all extremely grateful for Ron’s unstinted efforts to help restore and maintain the health and beauty of Centerville’s Long Pond.
The current organization is as follows:
OFFICERS:
CO-CHAIRPERSONS: Jim Kelly, Donna Mayo
VICE CHAIRPERSON: Michael McDonald
COMMUNICATIONS: Cathy Fair
TREASURER: Ron Fone
ADVISOR: Paul Yasi
EDITOR-AT-LARGE: Steve Waller
CHAIRPERSON EMERITUS: Ron Sirch
The Association is governed by a Steering Sub-Committee consisting of the Officers and Members-at-Large and should consist of no less than five (5) nor no more than twelve (12) members.
We strive to keep you updated about our efforts regarding the health and safety of the pond via email and this website.
